Testimonials

"It is not often one is given the opportunity to be taught by someone both so talented and passionate as Ms. Levin. Over the period of time I was with her, about one and a half years, my playing advanced rapidly.  As a member of Ms. Levin's flute choir, I've seen first hand her range as a teacher.  She has mountains of insight for advanced and beginner players alike. After previously failing to make the cut off for the Western Regional Program (prior to working with Ms. Levin), Ms. Levin's practice techniques and audition preparation helped me earn a seat my second time around. On top of all her talents, Ms. Levin is simply an amazing person to be around. Patient, joyous and enthusiastic are all traits that come to mind. I can't recommend a teacher more empahatically than I can Ms. Levin."

"Throughout my time taking lessons with Sharon, she always went above and beyond. No matter what piece I was learning, every week I would arrive to find that she had spent time outside our lessons researching and preparing materials tailored to help me improve. She is always able to provide constructive feedback that never tears you down but instead lifts you up and inspires growth. Her love for the flute and teaching truly shines in every lesson. When I was transitioning to college, Sharon went the extra mile by personally reaching out to my college's flute teacher and orchestra conductor, coordinating with them to help with my transition. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering commitment to her students' growth make her not just an exceptional flute teacher, but a mentor who genuinely cares about your musical journey at every step, and I could not recommend her as a teacher enough!"

"No matter what level of flute playing you are at now or what level of flute playing you aspire to, Sharon Levin is the perfect flute teacher. Sharon is always joyful, kind, and encouraging and leads you to your best, helping you set goals and excel in reaching them. She has helped me reach all of my flute dreams - from Western Regionals to All State to prestigious music scholarships - and now I am getting a minor in music at Harvard College. Along with flute, she has taught me so much about music theory and history along the way. She has wisdom so far outside of flute and has a story behind every technique she teaches. The joy she finds in flute is infectious, and has led me to sharing it with others through flute performances in nursing homes and teaching little kids flute. I hope to maintain the passion for flute playing Sharon has inspired in me for the rest of my life."

"Sharon has been an amazing teacher, over the past 5 years. She taught my daughter the basics of how to hold and care for a flute, walked us through our first flute purchase, continued to teach through COVID, in person when we could, and virtually when we could not. She has a tremendous amount of experience, insight, and has a critical ear for tone. She is encouraging, exacting (in a positive way), and inspiring. With her teaching, my daughter has successfully auditioned for a variety of selective band and orchestra ensembles over the years, and prepared confidently for both individual and group performances, now at the high school level. We highly recommend learning to play the flute with Sharon!"

“I have been a flute student of Mrs.Levin’s for almost ten years (since I was about 8 years old) in the Tuning into Music program with Greenwich Alliance and in the Young Artists Philharmonic Flute Choir. In this time, Mrs.Levin has taught me priceless skills and discipline with the instrument and music theory. We always begin lessons with nailing down fundamentals like scales, rhythm, and other basics. By focusing so much on the fundamentals, it made me become a lot more in touch and comfortable with the instrument when I started seeing the scales and rhythms we practiced in songs we were playing. Sharon has always emphasized the importance of discipline and practicing with the instrument and through this I have been taught to see and be proud of the growth made when I practiced every day. Sharon makes learning the flute so enjoyable and rewarding with her positive attitude! Learning from Sharon is the best opportunity and lessons from her are so very valuable.”

“When my daughter decided that she wanted to spend more time playing the flute, I decided to put her in private lessons with Sharon Levin and I am so happy we got the opportunity to connect with her! Sharon is so dedicated to her students and to making them all confident and talented flute players!” Sharon helped us buy a step up flute and personally assisted us with many of the logistics, for which I am so grateful.”

“Thank you for everything that you’ve done for me over the years.  I will miss you when I am not here, and I appreciate everything that you’ve taught me.  I wouldn’t have been able to progress as much as I have without your help.  From practicing for auditions to being a part of the Flute Choir.  I will cherish the time that I’ve spent learning from you.
